Welcome to The Art of Senses!
For much of my life, I have been fascinated by a simple question:
What helps people feel more connected to themselves, to others, and to life?
The Art of Senses was born from that exploration.
Here, we explore how our senses, environments, relationships, emotions, and daily experiences shape the way we perceive, interpret, and engage with the world around us. Through education, reflection, guided practices, workshops, and community experiences, we cultivate greater awareness of the patterns that influence our wellbeing, choices, and sense of meaning.
This is a space for those who feel overwhelmed, disconnected, curious, or simply ready to live with greater awareness and intention. Rather than offering quick fixes, The Art of Senses invites a slower and often overlooked practice:
learning to pay attention.
Founded by May, The Art of Senses brings together years of personal exploration, lived experience, sensory awareness, mindful movement, nervous system regulation, and the study of human wellbeing. Its purpose is simple: to help people move from automatic patterns toward greater clarity, presence, connection, and intentional growth.
Rather than focusing on quick solutions, TAOS invites a deeper exploration of how we experience life through our senses, relationships, environments, habits, and everyday choices.
It is an ongoing invitation to cultivate awareness, curiosity, and a more intentional way of living.
A bit of Personal Story
For as long as I can remember, I have been curious about people and the many ways we make sense of life.
Growing up in Cuba, I was surrounded by very different perspectives. Some people found meaning through religion, others through spirituality, tradition, community, science, or personal experience. Family members, neighbors, teachers, and mentors often saw the world through very different lenses, and rather than choosing one path, I became fascinated by all of them.
Over time, that curiosity grew into a lifelong exploration of what helps people navigate life’s challenges with greater awareness, resilience, connection, and meaning. My journey has taken me through different cultures, communities, careers, and stages of life, including motherhood, immigration, personal transformation, professional leadership, wellness studies, mindful movement, and years of observing how people relate to themselves, to one another, and to the world around them.
Like many people, I have also experienced periods of stress, uncertainty, and disconnection. Again and again, I found myself returning to the same realization: when we learn to slow down, pay attention, and reconnect with our senses, relationships, environments, and inner wisdom, we begin to experience life differently.
The Art of Senses emerged from that ongoing exploration. Not as a destination or a set of answers, but as a space to learn, reflect, experiment, and cultivate greater awareness of the experiences that shape our lives.
What We Believe
At The Art of Senses, we believe that awareness is one of the most powerful tools for personal growth and meaningful change.
We believe our senses are valuable sources of information that help us understand ourselves, our relationships, and the environments we move through each day.
We believe that small moments of attention can create profound shifts in how we experience life.
We believe that wellbeing is not found through perfection, but through curiosity, self-understanding, and intentional practice.
We believe that connection to ourselves, to others, to nature, and to our communities plays an essential role in a meaningful life.
And we believe that every person already carries wisdom, resilience, and potential within them, often waiting to be rediscovered through awareness and reflection.
Why The Art of Senses?
The Art of Senses is rooted in a simple truth:
our senses are gateways to information.
When we learn to engage our senses consciously, we gain access to clarity, regulation, and inner guidance. We move from reacting to responding, and from survival to presence.
TAOS was created to explore this art, gently, intelligently, and in service of real life, offering a space where growth is grounded, human, and deeply respectful of each individual’s pace and path.
How We Explore
At The Art of Senses, awareness is not something we study only in theory. It is something we practice.
We explore awareness through reflection, sensory experiences, mindful movement, conversations, workshops, writing, and everyday moments of observation.
Sometimes the exploration begins with a question. Sometimes with a walk in nature, a meaningful conversation, a movement practice, or simply noticing what has been overlooked.
Rather than offering a single method or formula, TAOS draws from a variety of approaches that support greater presence, self-understanding, and intentional living.
The goal is not perfection. It is learning to engage more consciously with ourselves, others, and the world around us.
